The Valleyisms Art Exhibition opened Jan 23rd and is currently up and ready for viewing at the UTRGV Visual Arts building. The closing reception will be on Feb 17th from 6pm-8pm at the UTRGV Visual Arts Building, 2412 US-281 BUS, Edinburg, TX 78539.

Artist Statement:

Valleyisms is a conversation about class, masculinity, and family. As a Gen Xer, some of the things I associate as markers of The Valley are now things of a bygone era. Many of the things that are now considered markers of The Valley, like mangonadas, were not around when I was growing up in the 1980s. To me the defining aspects of The Valley were the landmarks, landscapes, and lifestyles associated with migrant farm working. In this series, I capture the contradictions that were inherent in my childhood. I focus on the juxtaposition of the scenery and the emotional drama that was going on behind the scenes.
